Turkey, first partner country of ISM organization, opened up the world in ISM 2011
ISM, The International Sweets and Biscuits Fair, hosted Turkey for the first time as the official partner country and Turkish national participation at the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair (ISM) was carried into effect under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters' Associations.
ISM Fair, which has being organized for 41 years displaying a wide range of products such as biscuit, sugar, cocoa products, ice cream, wafers, crackers, chewing gum, candy etc. hosted about 1500 companies from 70 countries. The fair occupied a gross exhibition space of 110,000 m² in seven halls.
Turkey was one of the ten largest participant countries on the basis of national participation at the fair. During the last 15 years the number of Turkish Exhibitors at ISM has been growing continually as from 1996 to 2011 the number of the Turkish participants increased from 7 to 55.
The unique tasted products of leading firms from the Turkish sweets, chocolates and biscuits sector was exhibited on 43 stands in ISM 2011, which was held between 30 January - 02 February 2011.
Turkish National Participation was carried out for the 11th consecutive times this year by Istanbul Exporters' Associations under the concept of "Toffee Apple”. 43 Turkish biscuits, sugar, confectionery and chocolate producers presented traditional Turkish sweets to the fair visitors. In the course of the Turkish national participation in ISM 2011, Minister of Foreign Trade, Mr. M. Zafer Çaglayan was the honorary guest at the opening ceremony of the International Sweets and Biscuits Fair where Turkey was the first Partner Country.
On the following evening of the first day of the fair a Turkish Night' organization was held in the honor of Turkey in which Turkish sweets and wine had been presented to approximately 500 guests from all over the world.
Turkey's export volume has reached to US$ 114 billion in 2010 due to the proximity to international markets, strong infrastructure skills and the great expansion of the product range. Confectionery sector is one of the leading sectors in Turkey thanks to the technologic investments in production plants and the emphasis placed innovations on confectionery, cocoa products and biscuits manufacturing. Through the constant developments in the sector, Turkish confectionery export volume has reached US$ 1 billion in 2010. Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Germany, Yemen, Libya, the USA, United Kingdom, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan are the top 10 destinations in Turkey's export of this sector. Turkey is amongst the fifteen largest exporter countries of sugar confectionery, cocoa products and biscuits in the world. Turkish biscuits industry's production capacity is more than 800.000 tons per year and capacity utilization rate is about 75%.
